3-Minute Coaching Tip

Thriving on Yes!

I will admit that I use to be a person who immediately said "no" to new and different things in life. I always had a various justifications, "I don't have time", "I can't afford it", "It won't work out", "I don't know how".

Can you relate?   We are conditioned to resist change and control our circumstances because we are afraid we won't be able to handle what comes up in us in the unknown. Unfortunately when we are in the habit of living in "no" (limitation) we miss opportunities to evolve. Consequently our lives get small and boring.

I have found it so much more enjoyable to live in "yes!" That means that anytime I feel a no coming on, I ask myself,  where is the yes in this? You can always, always find a yes in anything. This is because the universe only operates in a yes. Even if you say no to someone, you are saying yes to you. It is just getting conscious of this inner dialogue.

I will give you an example. My generous brother-in-law took the family for a 5 hour horse back ride. Everyone was riding fast and I couldn't keep up. My immediate response was (and I was vocal about it), "I am going back!" I then stopped and asked myself, how can this be a "yes". As soon as I asked this, my attention naturally focused on my brother-in-law's instruction on how to get the horse in line. I took on his instruction, and was able to keep up with the group. I had the best day of my life.

Coaching Tip: Stop your first inclination to say no to anything coming to you and ask yourself how can I make this situation a Yes?
